The salary you pay may be less than what they’re offering but nothing beats a workplace that feels like home. When work feels like home, employees will also be more inclined to contribute more and possibly even hang around after hours instead of rushing off to their actual home. So get that coffee machine working and invest in a new throw rug; it’s time to start a housewarming for the workplace.
Recognise and reward good work
Good work is expected, of course, but everyone secretly hopes for that bit of recognition from their boss and even colleagues as well. Even if you don’t go all the way and build a wall of fame for your best staff member, it will make their day if you just thank them when they go the extra mile to deliver excellent work. In fact, most people are only motivated to put in extra effort if they know that someone else will recognise and value it. So why not be the one who does that for your employees?

Each employee is a person that matters
On some days it may be tempting to refer to each and every employee as a number, especially if your company is a huge one. However, what this does in the long run is create a whole line of unmotivated people who do little more than the bare minimum required of them. Keep in mind that they are people with feelings, so be sensitive with your criticism and respect their personal space. It will also help to give each and every employee some say in the way things are done, no matter how small. They will feel like they belong right there, and that the company values them as an accomplished individual.
