If you do business online, you need to take a closer look at your business to make sure that you are doing the right things to make it successful. The Internet is a gigantic space that you can get lost in. If you desire to have productive days where you get important things done, you have to be disciplined and organized.
Here are some tips and advice that you can take into consideration:
1. Write Your Priorities Down
Before you start your day, sit down with a sheet of paper and write your priorities down. At the top of your list of ‘things to do,’ you must have the things that are mandatory to get done that very day; after which you will list the things that can wait for tomorrow, for example.
2. Don’t get Distracted
Do not answer the phone when you are trying to finish a project unless it is an emergency. You have to remain focused on each task and not get side tracked.
3. Take Care of Emails Before Your Start Your Day
Answer your emails in the morning before you even start your first project. Some people have a lot of emails to go through and this can take up to an hour or so of your time. Don’t open emails that you know are junk emails. Just hit the ‘delete,’ button. Pay attention to the ‘subject,’ of the email in order to determine whether you are dealing with junk email or not.
4. For the Working Parent: Don’t try to Parent and Work at the Same Time
If you are working at home with a young child, get a babysitter outside of the home. You will get a lot more done throughout the day. Schedule an appropriate time to pick up your child. You can also do some of the work during the time your child is at the babysitter and the other half when the child has retired to bed.
5. Take Care of Personal Responsibilities Outside of Work Time
If you have to pay bills online or search for anything that is related to personal things, be sure to do this outside of your business time. This can take a chunk of time out of your day.
6. Take Breaks
Take time off during the weekends. Spend time with your family for a more balanced life. If you don’t, you will get burned out and your business will no longer be any fun.
7. Pace Yourself
Take time for lunch as you would if you were working at a nine to five job. You can easily find yourself working 8-9 hours straight when you are working at home. This may seem easy in the beginning, but can quickly lead to burn out.
With all of that out of the way, you are able now to look at the kind of methods you are using to market your business online. You also have to look at what is working and what is not.
For example, let’s say that you are writing fresh content, posting them to article directories, using the article directory article link to post to high PR websites; and that method is working for you, increase your efforts. Hire someone to do some of the work for you. You can hire someone to write the content and another person to submit to the article directories and you can concentrate on doing something else such as linking to high PR websites, writing Press Releases and/or product reviews.
It frees up your time to focus on things that will compliment the success that you are experiencing. Take a look at different methods that will enhance your efforts and re-evaluate this every month.
