Blogging is tough. It's time consuming. How do you keep on going when life gets busy and you have tons of things going on?
It's tempting to stop writing. It's tempting to procrastinate. It's tempting to give up. It's tempting to say, “Hey, I'm too busy to write a post.” Maybe you are. Or maybe it's just another excuse.
I'll tell you a secret. In about 12 hours I'm going to have a baby. Yep, and I'm blogging.
Now, if I can be here on this blog writing away. Why the heck can't you?
You may think that I'm a deadbeat Dad, who's ignoring his other responsibilities. I don't think I am. This weekend I not only got the house ready for the new baby, but I also spent some quality time with the family. I took my family out to the beach to spend some quality time with my son before his new sister arrives. We also went out to the park. I took him out to his soccer practice. We went painting. Right now, he's napping and I have a little quiet time, so I'm blogging.
Btw, I also have a full time job. You can read a little bit about my daily schedule in my post about managing my blogging time.
It would be really easy for me to stop writing. It would be really easy for me to go to sleep at regular hours instead of juggling work, family and blogging. But I made a commitment to myself.
So I get up at 5am to blog before the rest of my family wakes up. I stay up a little later at night to work on the blog after my family goes to sleep. I make sure I don't neglect my family and my other responsibilities at the same time.
Anyways, I'm not bragging. But I do think that sometimes we get caught up in all the negatives. We tell ourselves all the reasons why we can't do something. This then leads to a self fulfilling prophecy. Sometimes, we got to stop telling ourselves no and get to doing it.
I'm not advocating continuing on at all costs. If there ever comes a time that I can't manage all of my responsibilities, then I will stop. But I'm not at that point.
You'll have to forgive me for this somewhat rambling post. My thoughts are on other things… But that's no excuse not to write.
I'm hoping that this blog post can be a bit of an example. Sometimes the writing doesn't need to be perfect. We can spend a lifetime waiting for perfection. The more important thing is to put pen to paper. Get it done. Let your audience know that you are doing your best to give them the best value that you can. If you have to do it by example, then do it by example.
So, this post is a bit rambling. Frankly, it was hard to do. I have a ton of things on my mind and not a little bit of blogger's block. But the important thing is that I got it done. Just do it.
I'm having a baby in the morning and I beat my blogger's block.
What's your excuse?
