I’ve been using Mint to manage my financial and monthly budgeting needs for years. It’s an awesome service that’s completely free! If you are looking for a free budgeting and financial planning tool, I highly recommend checking out Mint.com and trying out their service.
What is Mint.com
Mint allows you to enter in your financial accounts securely so that the information is visible all in one place. Then they provide you a variety of tools to help you out with your financial planning and your budgeting so you can stay on top of your finances.
I love all the tools that Mint provides. I’ve set up my account information so that I can easily see right on my homepage dashboard how much money I have available at a glance. I also have the ability to drill down and see where my money is going.
But the best part of their service is their free budgeting software. I can set a budget for each area of my spending.
For instance, if you take a look at the image above, you can see how food and dining for restaurants is set at a maximum of $200. Entertainment is set lower at a max of $100. Then I can set options for Mint to send me an alert when I am nearing or passing my budget threshold.
Mint’s free budgeting software then tracks all my expenditures for any accounts that I’ve entered into their system. I’ve put in all my various accounts information. Any money I spend is automatically categorized and then automatically assigned to the appropriate budget. So, it’s automatic. It’s pretty awesome, I can always tell when I need to cut back on some of my spending because Mint will send me an email that I am getting close to my budgeting threshold for the month.
Before I found out about Mint, I had to create an excel spreadsheet and track all of these expenses manually. It was a total headache and caused quite a bit of frustration when trying to find things that didn’t add up. With their free budgeting software, I was able to get all my budgeting done quickly and easily without all the hassle.
