The holidays are a great time for renovating your blog. There is always an ebb and flow to traffic during the holidays. After all, on Christmas and new years, most people are out doing other things instead of surfing the web. Many people are traveling during this time and you’ll notice quite often fewer people online.
While many bloggers take a few days off during this time, if you’re around and have some spare time, it’s a great opportunity to renovate your blog.
Have you been thinking about tweaking your theme?
Perhaps upgrading some code?
These changes can often be disruptive. You might have periods of time when the tweaks break your blog and you’re trying to figure out how to fix it all. You might try out a new theme that just doesn’t look right.
You never want to break your blog and miss out on traffic. So the best time to make these changes and upgrades are during low traffic times.
Think on some of the things that you might have wanted to try out and take this opportunity to do some renovations.
Here are a couple of things you might think about renovating this season.
How Can You Improve The Readability of Your Content?
Your content is the most important part of your blog. Is there anything that you can tweak to make your content more readable?
You might look into changing your font style to an easier to read font. Generally the Arial and San Serif typeface are good options for easy to read font types. Also, you want to pick a font style that’s common to ensure that it’s supported across the different browser types.
How about the look of your font?
You can change the size of your font to make it larger and easier to read. 14 or 15 point font is a good range for a font size. I find that smaller than that and my eyes start to strain. While too large and it looks gawky.
Line spacing can improve readability quite a bit as well. If your spacing is too small, the text gets all scrunched together and hard to read. You get that wall of text effect. Try for something in the range of 1.5 for line spacing.
Can You Update the Design of Your Blog?
The design of your blog can help direct reader attention to your content as well. You can make your headers a bit more eye catching. So that they stand out a bit more as important.
Do you have enough contrast between your text and the background. The more context you have the better. You can adjust your theme’s color scheme to improve the contrast and make your blog more readable.
Beyond just tweaking your theme, you can outright update your theme. Have you been looking into a snappier design. It’s always good to make a big change like that during times of low traffic. You never know if your new theme will be entirely compatible with your other plugins and widgets.
But if you’ve had your eye on some different themes and wanted to spiffy things up. Now’s the time to do it!
You can update the look of your blog and start off the new year with a fresh design to greet your readers. It’s a great way to start the new year of blogging!
