Exit Sign

How many of you have visitors that discover your site through a google search or some other means, only to see those people stay for 10 seconds and leave?  How would you like to find a way to make money from those visitors?

If so, read on…

Bloggers hate bounces because we want people to stay around and read our content.  We want them to subscribe to our blog and hopefully become paying customers some day.  But we all have experience with visitors who bounce.

For one reason or another those visitors didn’t find what they were looking for and quickly hit the back button and leave your site.  The other day I discovered a program that helps you monetize the traffic leaving your site:  Exit Junction.

What is Exit Junction

Exit Junction is a pay per click ad network that specifically targets traffic exiting your site.  That means that your loyal subscribers and people who stay on the site aren’t bombarded with ads.

Instead, they place an ad based on a visitors original search query when they hit the back button after visiting your site.  I thought this was a really innovative idea.

For example, say a visitor gets to Riches Corner googles a search term about “finding a finance attorney.”  Well, this blog is not about legal services, but there may have been a long tail in one of my posts somewhere.  That person may take a look at my blog and quickly hit the back button.  When they do that, they will be shown an advertisement for actual finance attorneys before they get back to google.  You get paid when they click on that ad and on a CPM basis as well.

Benefits of Exit Junction

As you can see, they have a really awesome concept and I’m sure that you can spot some of the benefits right away.  After doing some research, I signed up for the program to give them a spin.

Here are some of the benefits that I discovered from my research:

  • Your site remains untouched.  Your visitors never see any ads on your site.  The only people who see ads are the ones who bounce off your site.
  • All of your traffic that bounces is monetized.  Exit Junction pays for ad views and clicks no matter where your visitors come from.  US, China, India…  It doesn’t matter, anyone who sees or clicks an ad counts.
  • You can run the ads along with adsense.  If you have adsense installed on your blog, you can still install Exit Junction.  Their ads are not contextual and don’t resemble Google adsense.
  • You are tapping into lost potential.  Everyone has bounce traffic.  In the past, I would just write off that bounce traffic and hope some of them might come back some day.  This is the first program I’m aware of that’s found a way to monetize that traffic.

Exit Junction also advertises that they have a high CPM rate compared to other programs.  I don’t have enough experience with their program yet to judge how they compare to others.  However, I’ve been using Exit Junction for about a day now and here’s the chart of my performance for that period:

Exit Junction Performance

As far as I can tell, they have a decent click through rate and their eCPM is $2.33, which is probably slightly above average.  I think the biggest benefit is that they appear to have a much higher than average CTR.  This makes sense because they are already targeting visitors that are specifically searching for something and are more likely to click through after they leave your site.

As far as their payment threshold, I couldn’t find any information about that on their site, which is worrisome.  However, with a quick search around the web, I’ve been reading that they payout at $25 monthly.  They send out payments to paypal on the 15th of each month.  I haven’t read any bad reviews about their payment schedule.

Finally, they also have an affiliate/referral program for their members.  They pay out 10% of your referral’s earnings for life.

If this program seems for fit your needs, you can sign up under my referral link for free here.

@Boston Flyer I think everyone experiences this kind of traffic. That’s why people put so much effort into lowering their bounce rate. This program seems like a win win to me.

Interesting. I wonder how such a method can impact long-term SEO. If you redirect so many users to the same add network I could see Google getting suspicious.

I'm not certain this would affect your SEO any more than any other ad network. These ads only show up when someone leaves your site after they've discovered it through a search. Then they only show up when it's a bounce, ie. when they leave immediate by clicking the back button. so presumably these people could spot right away that your site didn't fit into their original search context. So it doesn't redirect people to your site, but rather shows them a targeted ad based on their prior search terms.

Yea this is something to consider.
4 clicks resulted in 6 cents, that's not much but its something compared to the $0.00 that you would have received with out the ads.

    Nice find mate.
