There are a couple of sites that I use to ping my blog. For anyone starting out, this is a service that useful for letting the popular blog directories know whenever you update your site.

These pinging services will send out a ping to many of the popular blog directories so that you don’t have to go out to each one manually. That way you can concentrate on your blogging and making money.

There are several free services out there: pingomatic, pingoat.net, pingmyblog, and pingler.

Pingler particularly has a couple of good options. They have a free service for you to ping 88 sites that you can use manually. However, if you own several sites and want to automate the process, they also have a subscription service for $2.99 a month. You can register 25 sites with them and they will automatically ping your sites every 3 days. If you have that kind of volume, the service is invaluable.

in addition, if you like their service, you can sign up for their affiliate program and recommend them to others.

Sign up to be a Pingler affiliate.

Making sure that you ping directories with your updates is a good free way to keep the blog directories up to date. This will gradually lead to more traffic for your site.

This may be a silly question, but is it really ok to do this? Can it be that the search engines get annoyed when you ping them all the time?? What are your views for new blogs? I mean, if i were to ping "bing" and i'm not even indexed there do you think they will eventually send their spiders in my directors? Thanks for taking the time to read this! Glenny

Hi Glenny. What you want to do is only ping them when you put up new content, otherwise, you really won't get a benefit. Otherwise, you are ok to ping away. In fact, many platforms, such as blogger have their default options set to ping certain search engines with every new post.

When you ping a search engine, you are telling them there is new content, so I would go ahead and start pinging them from the beginning. The other thing that will help is to manually submit your site to be indexed. All the major search engines have a page for you to do that. You can find them simply by googling "submit my site to [search engine]"

WordPress does ping for you. However, you may want to update the pinging services to include more services.
