Sometimes the old fashioned ways of saving money are best. In days past, we used to get a newspaper subscription that would be filled with money saving coupons. Clipping coupons for some may have even been a regular Sunday routine. These days newspapers no longer have as many coupons and many have forgone the ritual of clipping coupons regularly. However, coupons still remain as a good way to save money. It’s just be transformed b technology and the internet into a different medium.
I recall back in college, I had a friend that would find tons of thrown away coupons in the Sunday newspaper out of the recycle bin. So, it was her Sunday ritual when she went to recycle her Sunday newspaper to pull out all the unused coupons from the recycle bin. It was amazing to me to realize that people threw away hundreds of dollars worth of coupons every Sunday. Of course, we’re talking about irresponsible college kids. However, I suspect that there are many households where savings are lost with thrown away coupons.
Also, with so many ecommerce sites popping up and online companies, coupons have transcended the paper medium. Many people haven’t yet made the transition to searching the internet for savings. Daily coupon sites such as groupon and living social are new experiences for many.
However, this is the new trend. Coupons are no longer limited to paper clippings. You can often find great deals online. A simple internet search can turn out hundreds of online coupon sites. You can often find coupon codes that you can enter at checkout to get a savings.
When you’re shopping online, it’s often wise to save some items in your shopping cart and then search the web to see if there are any coupon codes for the item that you are purchasing. Perhaps there are deals offered for the ecommerce company itself. At the very least, you can often find deals for free shipping. Large retailers such as Best Buy and Target often offer exclusive deals online that you can’t find in the physical store. By shopping wisely, you can gain significant savings, not to mention saving on time and travel expenses (such as gas) by shopping online.
Don’t limit your search to physical products. Many online services often offer discounts and deals. If you are looking to start a new website, you can often find web hosting coupon codes that give you great discounts on your hosting. You can find deals on domain name registration and many other online services. Online services often adopted these online discounting and saving strategies for their digital products more readily that their physical product counterparts. Because of the lower overhead of selling a digital product, it’s easier for the company to give out better savings to attract customers.
Deals can be found almost anywhere. Just like tossing away the Sunday paper full of coupons, failing to search for internet savings leaves a lot of money on the table. A few minutes of searching can ensure that you are getting the best possible deal.
