This is a great interview of Seth Godin that I found on youtube. In particular, it comes at a great time. As last night I was invited to join a tribe by Lye over at Find My Blog Way.
Why You Need a Tribe
First of, in this short interview, Seth Godin talks about the importance of having a tribe when you have a message to share. It’s important to have a group of people that share a common goal so that your tribe can help you push your message.
The idea is that everyone has the ability to be a leader. If you care about something, you have the ability to take a stand on any issue.
Once you take that stand, you also have the ability to build a community around your idea. And thus build a “tribe.”

Triberr the New Tribe Building Service
Yesterday, I was introduced to Triberr by Lye.
When I got his invitation, I was intrigued. I had started hearing some rumors about Triberr, but didn’t know much about their service. I went over to their website and read about their service.
The idea behind Triberr is that each member in a tribe will automatically tweet out each other’s new posts. So, if two members each have 10k twitter followers, instead of just having your post reach your individual 10k followers, your post will now be tweeted out to a total of 20k followers and so on. Talk about the potential to go viral!
At this point, the service is by invitation only, which is very smart. I actually like this feature as it forces you to vet your tribe very carefully.
Once you are in a tribe, you become a member of the “chief” who invited you, and you also become the chief of 3 other default tribes. At this point, you can invite other people into your tribe.
The potential of this service is the reach that it gives any individual. Your posts are now automatically sent out to all the followers of your tribe.
Here are a few points that I took away from researching triber:
- You can build up your traffic by spreading your message across your tribe
- Be careful who you invite into your tribe though as you don’t want spam
- Appears to have a good potential to get your material viral (so long as you have good quality tribe members)
- Also can help you build a strong community among like minded bloggers since you can send messages (smoke signals) to each other within the tribe.
Start Building a Tribe

So, as a new tribal chief, I do have some invitation slots. As you can tell from my thoughts on the service, it has incredible potential to build a strong following. At the same time, one must carefully evaluate who to bring into the tribe to ensure that the message of the tribe doesn’t become fragmented.
If you are interested in learning more about Triberr, head over to their homepage and read more about them.
If you want to join my tribe let me know. You can shoot me a message on my contact page or leave me a comment. Keep in mind that I will review your blog and make sure that your content fits in with mine. Either way, drop a note and let me know what you think about Triberr.
