As a freelancer you depend on clients to earn a living. Many freelancers, especially when first starting out, are so eager to get those clients they set their prices too low. Once those prices are so low it is hard to increase them, especially if it turns out to be a long-term relationship with the client. Make sure that you are aware of current pricing forget freelance practice of your choice and set your prices accordingly. While you always want to provide clients with a good deal, you do not want to lose money when you do.

Not focusing your attention on the company and the right areas of that company can be devastating to your success. It is easy to get overwhelmed with clients, marketing and other business matters and lose focus, but this is something that you should make sure that is not being done.

Not only should you make sure that you are working a schedule similar to what you would at a regular job, you should also make sure that you are taking the breaks as you work that are needed. Even a quick 5 or 10 minutes can provide you with invigoration and revive you back to life and back to work.

7: Making Promises You Cannot Keep

There is no better way to ruin relationships with clients when you make promises and then are unable to live up to those promises. No matter how much value your services may bring, if you cannot meet this one small demand you’re not going to have a business for very long. It is imperative that you make only promises that you can commit to. This also hurts you in that clients may tell others with the service that they were not happy with which can always be very damaging to even a large company.

  1. Over committing I think is one of the biggest mistakes that freelances or any business can do. If you can’t handle the work that clients give you and provide everyone with a quality resutl than do not take on that work. No matter how much money you think you will make over committing can sink your reputation faster than anything else.

Thanks for sharing these mistakes. I can related to everything on this list since I ran my own business and the mistakes were very similar to these.
