Since I have been an Internet Marketer and writer for the last 12 years, I have come to learn what the most important ingredient is to generate a living online. Consistency.
Yep, I know it sounds a little simple, but it couldn’t be more true. The problem with the social media age that we are in right now, is information. We went from getting our information through a limited number of resources (i.e. media, television, newspapers, etc.) to being absolutely bombarded with it 24 hours a day. Definitely a climate shift if there ever was one.
Me and My Friend
For a good 5 years, I would dabble in all kinds of ways to make money online with my eBooks and other information products. The problem was that I never stuck with one thing for long enough. I would start using one method, and then be diverted to using another method if I felt it would make me more money. So I was a “jack of all trades and a master of none” as they say.
I know a guy who went online a year after I did. While I was learning SEO, writing eBooks, posting on forums, promoting Clickbank stuff, posting Hubpages and Squidoo Lenses up, my friend stuck with article marketing. Nothing else, he simply wrote articles on whatever affiliate products he could find.
For the first 5 or 6 months, he made nearly nothing, and I teased him about sticking with a dog of a method.
Well, a couple years afterwards he was already making upwards of $7,000 a month.
Guess what he eventually did to earn such high-end profits? Article marketing? The same thing as always. Now he is still doing it but is making a ton more money, all the while using the same simple methods. I know for a fact that I have at least 100 skills related to the Internet Marketing niche that he doesn’t, but having all those ideas in my head caused nothing but confusion.
What I Learned from My Friend
Eventually I learned that you should pick one method, and give it time to grow, without jumping from job to job, career to career. Find out what you are best at, and take it for all its worth.
Think about this, how many times have you needed something and told a friend about it, such as a new carpet, and they tell you about a “carpet guy” they use who does great work?
The same goes for any other issues you have in daily life, like plumbing, the lawn, etc. Each issue means an expert for each one. On the flip side, how many people do you know that can do all of those things, with professional quality, sheet rock, cesspool, tile work, carpet installation, etc? Not many I bet.
A single person cannot be all things to all people, the same holds true for making money online. Find your niche, and stick with it, while keeping your blinders on.
