The question is not why Apple tries to protect its brands (I think that's clear), but why Amazon chooses the alike name to its store that can be easily confused why Apple's one. It is their huge mistake ( even without taking into consideration lawsuit.) Your name, logo, brand shouldn't be confused with any other.

Yes, that's true. The flip side of the equation is that amazon is trying to piggyback on apple's fame with the AppStore.

Holy crap man!
I came over from Blokube because well, how could I not - what a find, what a story!
So you can imagine how surprised (awesomely so) to see my own logo staring at me halfway down the page!

Thanks man, much appreciated - oh and thankyou, I do like that logo a lot too (thankyou logonerds)

Funny thing is I noticed you changed your Avatar recently (still not sure whether I like it, think its too busy tbh) and it was only because of your valuable comments that I was able to tell who it was (OK that and the link to richescorner LOL)

anyway, great post - even better find.

Hi Alex,
I did change my gravatar, but I agree with you that it's a little too busy. I like the color scheme more than the old dollar sign with the green background. But I figure this one gets the message across. I'll probably have to play around on gimp and come up with a simpler one along the same lines sometime. Your logo really stands out. Thanks for passing the message around the web and telling your wife. I must say, I think that writing something that was spouseworthy may be a greater accomplishment. :)

Whether you'll focus on search engines as a primary source of your traffic or you'll build up your brand. Most often people choose blog name with keywords because
1) It helps a bit to rank higher in search results
2) It will be easier to sell the domain name after sometime, if wished.

After blogging for some time, I wish if I had chosen something unique name :-)

I know it's easier in the beginning to pick a name with keywords, but I think over the long run a unique name is way better for branding. I think the seo aspects can be built up over time with content.

I said this before but I will repeat it "Build a brand and that brand will sell" and I think this is something that Apple did very well, they were small but rose by keeping their brand in the view of anyone and trying to make common things (like app) and the use if i (like iPhone, iPad, iThing, okay the last one doesn't exist... yet) in order to make customers think about them everytime they use it.

The "app" word or brand, whatever you want to call it, doesn't belong to them but they made it seem it does...

I hope Amazon wins this lawsuite, I don't know why, I just feel like that (oh and I hate Apple)

I like rooting for the underdog as well. Funny that I think of amazon as the underdog in this fight. Apple is an interesting company. Whether you like or hate them, they are really good at marketing. When they do something it's generally an example of good marketing.

Hi Rich, I got a feeling that Apple is going to win this one. Amazon should settle quickly and find a new name. I love Alex's logo too - pretty powerful! Thanks for the news.

Hey ileane,I am curious to see how the battle between apple and amazon works out. Either way, I think apple is one of the best marketers out there. They know how to control the media.
