Quick, think of the words app store. What comes to mind? Probably the iphone, ipod, and Apple. How many of you would think of Amazon? Well, it looks like Apple feels like Amazon is trying to piggyback on the power of their brand.

Why is apple working so hard to protect a name as simple as App Store?
The Power of the Brand
Apple really understands the power of the brand. They take a name and put it everywhere. When one sees the multi-colored apple, they know exactly what it stands for. The power comes from the simplicity of the design and the prorogation of their name. Small wonder they don’t want Amazon poaching on their success.
Bloggers need to take a lesson from Apple. When you start your blog, it’s important to create a brand for yourself.
Many people advise picking a name that’s filled with keywords. While that is one step, it’s not absolutely necessary to creating a brand. Look at some of the popular blogs out there: mashable, boingo, cnet…
They have names that nobody would have picked for SEO purposes starting out. Yet, they’ve grown huge and any blogger would love to get the amount of traffic those sites get.
The power is in the branding.
You want to create a name that’s simple to remember and brand yourself.
The reality is that no matter how many keywords you stuff in the name of your blog, it’ll only grow with the power of your content. Your content is what will make your blog grow and thrive, not the name of your blog. If you make a name for yourself through your content, people will spread the word about your blog. What you want is a name that’s simple to remember, yet unique enough that you won’t get mistaken for other blogs.
If you are in the make money blogging niche, you could stuff your name with keywords and call yourself makemoneyblogging.com, but it doesn’t make your blog stand out against any of the million other blogs in that niche. There are hundreds of blogs named after keywords that just don’t stand out in a crowd.
Pop quiz!
Who runs the blog makemoneyblogging.com?
I really don’t know. Do you?
Now, who runs Viperchill.com?
I know this one. Glen Allsop.
You know why I know? He puts out good content. Also, the name of his blog is unique, so it sticks in my memory.
Creating Your Brand
When you first start your blog, think on the niche that you are entering. Now think of some unique names for your blog. It doesn’t necessarily need to have your keywords. You can put those in your tagline.
You may get lucky and be able to work in a keyword and still make your name unique, but most of the time it will be hard to do that. But what you will do is find a name that’s simple to remember and unique at the same time. Sound it out loud to yourself a couple of times. Try to say it along with your tagline and see if it flows.
Alliteration is a really good technique for creating a memorable brand. That means having phrases in your tagline and name that start with the same letter or sound. Apple Appstore is a good example. Literary techniques such as that makes phrases tend to stick in the mind.
After you pick a good name, start getting your brand out in the world by creating social media accounts with that same name.
For example, all of my accounts are richescorner. You can find me on facebook or twitter by simply looking up richescorner. Nobody needs to remember more than one name to find my blog and my social media accounts.
The next step is creating a logo. I must admit, I’m still working on the best logo for this blog. However, the key element to a logo is actually simplicity. Make it as simple as possible because you want it to be memorable. Don’t go for a complicated image, even if it looks cool. Try to get it as simple as an apple. Nobody forgets the rainbow apple.
If you want a good example of a simple, yet unique logo, take a look at Alex Whalley’s new logo:
You know exactly what the AW stands for. It’s simple and memorable. Excellent logo, Alex!
Now Go Get Your Name Out There!
The key is simplicity. Make your name unique and simple to remember. Your content is what will make your blog grow. Your name is what will keep it memorable in people’s minds. No matter how you feel about Apple, they are great at marketing. Take a lesson from them and get your name out there!

The question is not why Apple tries to protect its brands (I think that's clear), but why Amazon chooses the alike name to its store that can be easily confused why Apple's one. It is their huge mistake ( even without taking into consideration lawsuit.) Your name, logo, brand shouldn't be confused with any other.
