6 Dangerous Jobs That Willl Make You Feel Good About Your Work

People complain about their work all the time. They think they have it tough, but that’s not really the case. There are jobs out there that are worse than yours. Your job doesn’t have a mortality rate, does it? Well, then you have nothing to complain about. However, these jobs do have a mortality rate and it’s pretty high. If you ever find yourself doing one of these jobs you better get insured before showing up to work. Let’s take a look at some of the most dangerous jobs in the world to put things in perspective for you.

High-Rise Window Cleaner

Are you afraid of heights? Maybe you should ask yourself this question when you’re cleaning windows, while being suspended from a skyscraper. If you look out of the window of your twelfth floor office and think your job is stressful, then wait till you’re on the other side of the glass. You need nerves of steel to do what these window cleaners do on a regular basis. The only things keeping them company are birds. Picture Tom Cruise hanging from the Burj Khalifa in Mission Impossible 4 and imagine doing that till you retired.

Fireman

Would you willingly go into a burning house to save someone’s life? Well, that’s what firefighters do while they’re on the job. They literally walk through fire when they perform this heroic deed. And for them it’s just another day on the job. You’ve got to hand it to these guys, while you’re complaining about the air conditioning in your office they’re saving people from burning buildings. There’s a reason why the ladies find firemen attractive. They’re the embodiment of male masculinity and courage. If you’re having a hard time finding a date, maybe you should become a fireman.

Oil Rig Worker

There’s a reason why fuel is so expensive. It’s because it’s that difficult to get it out of the ground. And you don’t want to be one of the people working towards it. Remember the Deepwater Horizon explosion? Imagine working on that oil rig. You’re out in the middle of the ocean with no way out and the man made “island” that you’re on explodes. There are easier ways to retire from your job. These guys don’t exactly go into outer space and destroy asteroids like in the movie ‘Armageddon’, but they’re the reason your SUV is running on full tank.

Miner

Stand-up comedian Bill Burr describes this profession quite nicely. He describes it as drilling to the centre of the Earth and shaking hands with the Devil. Although this may sound funny to you, it’s actually a very dangerous job. With all that coal surrounding you it’s only a matter of time before a fire breaks out. And if you’re lucky enough not to be killed by the fire, then there’s a distinct possibility that you might be buried underneath the rubble when the mine caves in. We seriously need to shift to clean energy as soon as possible to make these jobs obsolete.

Crab Fisherman

You love feasting on crabs, but have you ever wondered how difficult it is to catch them? Crab fishing has been described as one of the most difficult jobs in the world and for good reason. You need strong sea legs to be a crab fisherman. The rough seas that these people endure during their fishing trip can only be described as “hellish”. Don’t forget to wear waterproof boots or there’s a good chance that you might be sleeping with the fishes by the end of the day. Or perhaps crabs.

Bomb Disposal Squad

Any job where there’s a possibility of you being blown to smithereens can only be described as dangerous. Others have the luxury of slacking on the job, but not you. You need to be vigilant if you want to survive each day on the job. After all, defusing a bomb isn’t exactly the same as balancing the books. You need ice in your veins to do this job, it’s not for everybody. Just watch ‘The Hurt Locker’ and you’ll know what I’m talking about.

Now that you’ve got a sense of what job stress truly means you’ll look at your work from a new perspective. If you catch yourself thinking that you’re stuck in a dead end job just remember, things could be worse. You could be in a job where you end up dead.
