This weekend, I was knocked out with a cold. It’s just miserable being sick, I was fatigued and grumpy. I was completely unproductive. Luckily, I had several guest posts that were scheduled to be published over the weekend, but other than some proofreading, I didn’t do much.
I’m still in recovery mode today, so I thought it would be a good time to talk about some health tips.
Who doesn’t want to be healthier?
In particular, I think if you spend long periods of time in front of a computer screen or working at home, it takes a bit of extra discipline to make sure you are staying healthy.
Here are a few simple tips to maintaining a healthy blogging lifestyle:
This is a bad habit of mine. I have a tendency to skip breakfast quite often. I will wake up early in the morning and check on my blogging activities. Perhaps write a post or do some commenting. Then I have to get ready for work, so I hop in the shower, get dressed and run out the door without breakfast. Lately, I’ll try to eat something while I am doing my blogging, so I can get some breakfast in. When I get that first meal in, I find that I am more energetic through the day.
Along the lines of making sure I get my breakfast. I also don’t have the healthiest diet, though I’ve been doing better lately. Fruits and vegetables often go lacking in my diet. At the same time, when you are sitting in front of a computer screen, sometimes there is a temptation to snack. If you find yourself snacking on chips or other unhealthy snack foods, try and switch to a healthier snack. Why not have an apple or some carrot sticks?
Drink More Water
I’ve been making a conscientious effort to drink more water. Not only is it healthier but it’s more cost effective whenever you eat out. Order a water instead of a soda. When you get dehydrated, you tend to lose concentration faster and feel fatigued. Getting enough water through your day is really important to staying fit and healthy. I started keeping a 16 oz. sports bottle of water on my desk so that I remember to keep hydrated.
Get Out of the House
Staying indoors too much tends to sap my energy a bit. It’s important to get out of the house every once in a while. Take a walk, get a bit of fresh air. It’s a good idea to take a few minutes out of your day just to take a walk outside. The fresh air is good for you and you’ll get a change of scenery. It’s also good for your creative juices and your overall health.
It’s so easy to get caught up in your work and taking care of the family, one of the first activities to go by the wayside is exercising. If you don’t have time to go to the gym anymore, you can figure out some quick exercise routines that you can do at home. Go for a quick job in the morning before your kids wake up. It’s best if you can work up a good sweat and get your cardio going, but even some sit ups and push ups at home can help get your blood flowing in the morning.
This is just a general tip, but I think it helps to maintain a good healthy lifestyle when you have a positive attitude overall. Think of these activities as fun. Perhaps you can get your kids involved when you exercise. You can go to the park and kick a ball around with them. Enjoy the healthier foods that you are eating. Have some fun with some cooking experiments. In the same way that passion and love can help you run a successful blog, that same passion and joy can help you live a healthier lifestyle as well.
