Last week I was blog hopping and I got into a conversation with Erin over at write right about my recommended summer reading. The very first thought that came to mind was my new favorite author, Patrick Rothfuss and his new series, The King Killer Chronicles. If you haven’t discovered these books yet, they are a fantastic read, starting with the first book, Name of the Wind.
As I told Erin, if you are a fan of Tolkein and love a rich fantasy world with unique characters, then you’ll love this book. This book uses a unique style of a story within a story that works really well. Name of the Wind follows the trials of a burgeoning young hero, Kvothe, as he begins his life long quest to discover and destroy the magical beings who killed his parents. There’s magic, discovery, mystery, love and intrigue set in a brand new fantasy world. It is a fantastic read.
I own this book in multiple formats and love listening to the story being told to me through an audiobook just as much as reading the book itself. In the audio version by Audible, narrated by Nick Podehl, the characters come alive. The narrator does a great job of reading the various characters with their accents and intonation that was a perfect match of how I imagined them before I listened to the audio version. To me, this is a testament to how well this book was narrated. If you haven’t yet discovered this series, I’d recommend it to anyone who loves high fantasy.
