Getting Paid for Your Blog Posts

There are a lot of people who start up a blog, just to share ideas and news without expecting to get paid for it. However, more and more people are finding they can get paid for their blogs, and their blog posts. Whether you have started a blog for the sole purpose of getting paid, or to simply share your knowledge and wisdom, there are plenty of ways you can get paid for your posts.

One of the easiest ways to get paid for your posts is to go through a paid blogging networks. Through these networks you can get in touch with different blogs that pay you for your posts. These blogs can be on almost any topic, like technology, crafts, or even blogging in general. Posting on these blogs gives you a chance to expand your writing skills by writing reviews on products, opinions about current events, fiction, or just your personal experiences. There are so many options on topics and types of posts that you could write and get paid for. Of course, since each blog is different, make sure you understand the rules, requirements, and guidelines for each particular blog. Some blogs have a set price for how much they pay for a post, but others pay based on your experience. When you are first starting out, you may only get paid around $5 or $10 for a post. While this may seem as though it isn’t worth the work, think about the exposure you can get from posting on that particular blog. As you start to build a reputation and create a following, you could get paid anywhere from $100 to $200 or more per post.

While making money from posting on other blogs can work out quite well, getting paid from your own blog is always a plus. One way to get paid on your own blog is by selling out ad space. For popular blogs, you can set up an account with Google’s AdSense. Google’s AdSense is a free program that lets you pick ads and merchants that are relevant to your site’s content. You then receive money for the traffic that your drive to those sites through the ads on your blog. This is a great way to make some extra money off of your blog, but beware of how many and what type of ads you put on your blog. If readers and viewers feel there are too many ads that are irrelevant it may deter them from staying loyal followers. Also, if this is all you plan on doing to make money off of your blog and blog posts, you won’t make enough for it to be your main income.

Another way to get some extra money is by becoming an affiliate. Affiliate bloggers work with a company or business to help promote their site, product, or service through links within a post. There are a lot of different affiliate blogging programs that you can join, like Amazon.com. Each program is different on how they pay you and how much, but most are paying you for placing a link in an article or post as well as how much traffic you send to their site. Finding a program that fits in with your blog is very important since you will be linking to them. When you do place one of their links in your post be careful of what text you use for the link and make sure it fits in with your posts topic. If you write an article about crafts, you wouldn’t want to add an affiliate link to an igloo cooler. It doesn’t make sense and will definitely put off your readers. While joining an affiliate program is a great way to get extra money, it can make things difficult if you want to guest post on other blogs. Some blogs have a very strict rule that no affiliate links are allowed in guest posts. Be sure to read their rules and guidelines to see whether or not they accept posts that have affiliate links.

Similar to becoming and affiliate, you can also become sponsored. Being sponsored differs from being an affiliate because instead of being paid for the link you place and how many people click on it, you are paid for giving a company or product exposure with an honest review. Some bloggers who are sponsored receive products for free, and get paid to post a review of the product. They can then keep the item or include it in a giveaway for their readers. This is a great way to earn some extra money, check out different products, and boost your readership.

There are many ways that you can get paid for you different blog posts, you can look at job boards like ProBlogger.com’s job board, you can look for paid guest posting opportunities, or any of the other methods mentioned. Some bloggers also choose to add links to PayPal accounts so readers can donate money to the blogger. This is very common with craft and travel blogs. One thing to keep in mind when getting paid to blog is tracking your income. If blogging is your main income and you pay taxes on it, you will want to make sure you are keeping track of every job, ad, or sponsored post and how much you got for it. An easy way to do this is to use bookkeeping software or even just create a simple excel spreadsheet. If it is possible, try to create invoices for jobs, as well as get receipts or transaction history for different jobs. This will help you keep track of your finances with ease so you can keep on posting blog posts for money.
