It is incredible how strong the bond between poverty and lack of education is. In the parts of the world where people do not get any education or their school system is very badly organized and managed, poverty is also on the highest level. And then, in some other parts of the world, mostly progressive and developed in many ways, both children and adults underestimate the value of education and make fun out of knowledge. While school systems in developed countries also have certain issues and flaws, people take education for granted and they can hardly imagine what looks like what it looks like when you cannot write or read and you also have no one to teach you how to do that. By educating yourself and learning new skills and information, you advance your brain and capability in order to become a more successful and contented person. That is why learning improves the life quality. And it is so with literally every form of learning.
Traditional vs. personal learning
Learning is not only what you are forced to know in educational institutions. Those places very often do not give the necessary incentive, but oppress learners and try to fit them into their patterns. However, learning is most efficient and productive when done on a personal level. That is why aristocratic families in the past used to hire private tutors for their children. Also, that is why private schools are more efficient today than state-owned school.
However, even during the years of formal education, people who are not too successful in school still learn something they are interested in outside the institutions. Although these activities are called hobbies or preferences, they are actually forms of learning. Such an approach to learning to new things should never be left for the whole lifetime. The most valuable learning is based on personal preferences and it gives the best results. Being able to make your own study guide and follow it to gain more knowledge is a fantastic characteristic. When you find out about things you really like, it will stays in your memory forever and you will be able to live in a more advanced way.
Hunger for information
People who are into books and the traditional ways of learning tend to underestimate those self-trained fellows. However, it is completely wrong. If you like old Egypt or capital cities of foreign languages and you found a way for fitting into the requirements of school rules system, it does not mean that somebody who has learnt the same things in their own knows less. It is actually very often the opposite. A great proof for this argument is popular music. While classical music demands fantastic technical skills and great knowledge of music theory, these musicians are most often mere interpreters. They have all the skills necessary for that music performance, but they lack originality and creativity. That is why great pop and rock music was and is still being made by self-trained enthusiasts. Formal education sometimes only shrinks your views. If you are hungry for information and knowledge, follow your path of informal education and you will get where you want.
It goes without saying that learning improves the quality of life. However, education is often missing or it is not the right type of education. But even if you do not fit into traditional methods or learning, you should always do it your way and keep on improving your skills and your life.
