It is always best to know your career road map. This includes understanding the performance review cycle in addition to having a realistic perception of both your strengths and weaknesses. If your starting pay is not appealing to you, it is advisable that you ask for an evaluation and review of your salary after you have been there for six months. However, many employers usually award pay raises after having the staffer work for them for at least a year.
Come Up with New Ideas to Show Your Value
In a workplace where there are many employees, you are your own public relations agent and manager. Never hold the assumption that your bosses and colleagues know that you are hardworking and good at your job. You need to inform them of what you have been doing. In addition to making your skills known, you need to generate new ideas by not limiting yourself to your daily responsibilities. Have a strategic way of thinking of how you can make reports or projects better. Always make a point of tracking new development in your career and come up with new ideas that are aimed towards driving business results for your employer.
Make a Formal Request
When making a request for a pay raise, career coaching experts suggest the use of formal channels, like meeting with your manager. Also, remember to arm yourself with salary and benefits specific to your industry when making the request. Your request should make reference to your job description and you should be in a position to fully demonstrate that you are operating above the specified role before seeking a raise or a promotion. In other words, you should demonstrate that the roles you are performing warrant the pay raise or promotion.
