Why a Laptop Makes a Great Secondary Day Trading Computer

I understand why laptops are tempting for day traders. Maybe you don’t want to be tied to a desk all day and you would like a change in scenery. Or maybe it’s because you’d rather do your trading from your local coffee shop (the one with the cute barista). With a laptop, all you need is a full battery and a place with a Wi-Fi connection and you’re in business. Having a laptop gives you options as to where you make your trades and this is something that can appeal to a lot of traders. Despite the benefits, however, laptops aren’t ideal for your day to day trading. If you are a serious day trader and you are picking out a PC then you should really just use a laptop as a secondary PC. A laptop isn’t going to have the power or functionality of a desktop day trading computer, but it can be very useful in certain situations.

Laptops Are Good When You Can’t Be At Your Desk

Sometimes life happens and for one reason or another you can’t be at your regular desk. Maybe you have a business meeting or maybe it’s your turn to pick up the kids from school. Whatever the reason may be, you are going to be away from your desk for a while but still want to keep an eye on your investments. In this situation, having a day trading laptop can really come in handy. You can catch up on the day’s news, make whatever important trades you need to make, and do some basic research. It won’t necessarily be the most efficient way to get business done, but at least you can get some of the important things out of the way.

Laptops Are Good When Your Desktop is Down

Having a backup laptop can really come in handy, especially when that “worst case scenario” is no longer a scenario. Let’s say you spill your macchiato all over your desktop and now you have to get it repaired; having a backup laptop would really come in handy in that scenario. Again, it wouldn’t be as efficient as your desktop, but at least you can do what you need to do. Laptops are also incredibly helpful if you have a power outage. In this situation, as long as you have a 3G/4G connection, you can use your laptop to make whatever crucial trades you need to make while you wait for the power to come back on. It’s important to make sure that your laptop always has a full charge, just in case this situation comes up.
