You’ve created your new website and put all the finishing touches in. Perhaps it’s a new blog, or a new commerce site and you’re ready to take your first orders. Now, you wait and wait… but no one knows about your site? How do you get people to come to your website? How do you get the attention of the search engines?
This is where you need to start with some search engine marketing and small business marketing.
You may feel a little lost trying to get listed in the search engines when you start your first small business website.
Here’s a quick and easy way to start your journey towards getting noticed in the search engines.
Write an Article Related About the Topic of Your Website
Write something informative about your website. Make sure that your article is informative and easily readable. If you don’t feel comfortable writing your own article, you can always outsource the writing. There are many small job boards such as fiverr where you can find someone to write a short 3-4 paragraph article for a very low amount. However, it’s good practice to learn how to write these articles on your own.
I suggest also thinking about several related topics that you can spin off into separate articles. These articles will be your launch pad towards advertising your new website. Keep in mind that these articles are different than the blatant advertisements that you may see in your newspaper. These articles are more subtle. You want to give information to the reader and show them that you are an authority in the field. Let the readers know that you have something to offer.
Place Your Website Link in the Article
There are two ways to do this depending on where you submit your article. The first way is to put in some anchor text with your key words and put your link there. For example, if your website is for selling widgets, you may want to put in a sentence like: “Where to buy widgets online.” Then you put your link on that sentence. If you are running a local business, then you want to put in your location in the keyword to increase your local SEO. This way you will elevate yourself in the local search listings and increase your exposure in the local search news. Putting in your geographic location is important when you want to elevate local listings.
The other way to place your link is to create an author box with an author bio. This is a short description of yourself with the link at the end of the article. Many article directories require that you place your links in the author box, rather than in the body of the article. Simply write a short description 1-2 sentences about yourself or your website and place the link in the text there. Try to write a description that will catch the attention of your audience.
Submit Your Article Online
At this point, you have an article ready to submit to other online sites. Perhaps you have several articles. The more the better. Start with the online article directories. Many of these directories have a high authority with the search engines. You can start with article directories such as ezinearticles. It’s a simple matter to create a free account and upload your article. You want to submit your article to as many directories as possible. That’s why I recommend writing several articles, so that you have some variety instead of just a lot of copies.
The other place to submit your articles is as guest posts on blogs. Look for blogs in your niche that accept guest posts. Many of them will have guest posting policies that you can review. These blogs will help you spread your reputation out within the blogging community.
Be imaginative and think of all the different places that you can submit your articles. These submissions will stay online for a very long time and give you great exposure in the search engines and the general community. This is one of the best ways to start getting noticed.
